Autumn – Letting Go and Renewal
Autumn teaches us the necessity of release. Just as trees shed their leaves, we too must shed what no longer serves us, be it emotional baggage, outdated beliefs, or toxic habits. This process is not just about loss, but about making space for renewal.
The Metal Element
Traditional Five Element Acupuncture weaves together nature’s cycles, enhancing our emotional and physical health to promote well-being.
Within the Five Element Acupuncture tradition, Autumn is associated with Metal and the Lungs and Colon meridians and organs. Metal comes from the capacity to shape and refine. To find out more about how Metal fits into the five Elements, see page: https://www.southwellacupuncture.co.uk/acupuncture-five-elements/
The Lung and Colon: Gateways of Purity and Elimination
The Lung takes in the pure (inspiration, clarity), while the Colon eliminates the impure (toxicity, negativity). Their partnership is a metaphor for how we should live: breathing in what uplifts us, and releasing cleanses.
The Lung and Colon work together as a team, one taking in the pure, and the other eliminating waste. When the Body is not functioning, issues may occur in the Lungs and Colon, such as bronchitis, shortness of breath, Asthma, coughs, allergies, nasal congestion, emphysema, colds, sore throat, constipation, diarrhoea, IBD, IBS and abdominal pain.
Metal – Mind and Spirit
On a Mind and Spirit level are unable to take in purity; waste keeps building up in your system. Instead of tranquillity and inspiration, spontaneity and freshness, depression, stubbornness (inability to let go), isolation, and negativity may be felt.
Grief as a Cleansing Force
Grief, often misunderstood, is a necessary and healing emotion. When balanced, it helps us process change and loss. When blocked, it can manifest as depression or emotional numbness.
Metal and Self-Worth
The Metal element governs our sense of value. When imbalanced, we may seek external validation through possessions or achievements. Restoring Metal helps us reconnect with our intrinsic worth.
