Vertigo and Acupuncture

Vertigo and Acupuncture

Vertigo, Labyrinthitis, BPPV, Cervical Vertigo, vestibular neuritis, Ménière’s disease and dizziness can be helped with Traditional Five Element Acupuncture, treating you holistically to aid recovery and management.

What can make you dizzy

Dizziness and vertigo are common conditions. Making a person falsely feel that the environment is moving about them, or that they are moving inside their head.

The condition usually originates in the peripheral nervous system. For example, due to a disorder of the inner ear such as Ménière’s disease, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), or labyrinthitis and vestibular neuritis.

Less commonly, dizziness and vertigo may be due to a disorder of the central nervous system, such as haemorrhages, ischaemia, or tumours, infection, stress or trauma.

Neck disorders can also result in cervical vertigo, which may be accompanied by headaches, blurred vision, nausea and vomiting.

It is always important to check with your GP if there are any other underlying issues before starting acupuncture treatment.

Western medicine Treatment for vertigo

Treatment for BPPV usually comprises certain movements to reposition particles in the canals of the ear, known as the Epley manoeuvre.

Pharmacological therapy may be offered for dizziness and vertigo, including vestibular suppressants, anti-emetics and benzodiazepines. These medications, however, may result in unwanted side effects.

Acupuncture helping Vertigo

Stress and Vertigo – Very often, patients are under stress, which can either be building over time or sudden changes in their lives. Traditional Five Element  Acupuncture may be effective in helping these situations and helping the patient find balance again, with the acupuncture treatment and lifestyle suggestions and support.

Cervical Vertigo can cause neck pain, dizziness and nausea (sometimes referred to as cervicogenic dizziness). Several different things can cause the condition, such as inflammation, joint issues and trauma. Traditional Five Element Acupuncture may be effective in helping alleviate the symptoms and reduce inflammation, to ease the dizziness, nausea and pain.

Labyrinthitis is an inner ear infection with inflammation of the labyrinth. The labyrinth is the inner ear system responsible for your hearing and sense of balance. When your labyrinth or one of the nerves inside your labyrinth is inflamed or irritated, hearing and balance can be affected. Although you will probably need antibiotics in the beginning, Traditional Five Element Acupuncture can help you with recovery.

Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo BPPV – often caused by stress as well as the physical problems within the inner ear. Therefore, the holistic model of Traditional Five Element Acupuncture treats the whole system to aid recovery.

Vestibular neuritis is an inner ear disorder that causes symptoms such as sudden, severe vertigo, dizziness, balance problems, nausea and vomiting. Experts believe that viral infections cause vestibular neuritis. Treatment typically involves managing symptoms or taking antiviral medications. Traditional Five Element Acupuncture can help you recover from the onset and long-term.

Ménière’s disease – Ménière’s disease is a rare inner ear condition that can affect your balance and hearing. Traditional Five Element Acupuncture can help to manage your symptoms, stress, and aid well-being.

Stress can make all these conditions start or get worse. Traditional Five Element Acupuncture can help to manage your stress, health and wellbeing to keep you well.

Holistic Care Traditional Five Element  Acupuncture treats by focusing on the individual. We treat you holistically, taking into account health history, lifestyle, stressors, and environment, looking at your whole system to understand why you are feeling unwell. To help you recover and manage your health and well-being.
