International Women’s Day

‘International Women’s Day (IWD) has been around for over a hundred years, as have many of the issues still impacting women’s advancement. Since 1911, IWD has belonged to all who care about gender equality. Celebrate women’s achievements. Raise awareness about discrimination. Take action to forge gender parity. All IWD activity is valid, that’s what makes IWD so inclusive.’ https://www.internationalwomensday.com/

Women are Amazing

Women are amazing. Equality is important, though respect is essential. As women have so many assets that men do not, which then puts more pressure on womankind.

Equality with respect, not erasure of difference

Women and men are different, but difference does not mean inferiority. This mirrors the equity-focused framing we must embrace equity, and respect, equality is the goal, but equity recognising different starting points and needs to know how we get there.

The cumulative, lifelong biological and emotional load women carry

By naming menstruation, fertility journeys (wanted or unwanted), pregnancy, birth, child‑rearing, menopause, and conditions such as endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome, making visible what is often invisible. This is consistent with concerns raised that modern living can mean busy living and does our health suffer, which highlights how women’s physical and mental health is frequently de prioritised due to social and economic pressures – life today.

Lack of belief, support, and appropriate care

Many women are not believed or adequately supported medically, emotionally, or environmentally, which is echoed in workplace and healthcare discussions, such as menstrual leave for severe pain, which documents calls for structural support rather than forcing women to “push through” pain or hide it.

Privacy, structure, and choice in every role

Women deserve privacy and support regardless of the role they choose or find themselves in. This aligns strongly with the ethos in Gynaecology – All ages, All stages, which centres womanhood across the entire life course, without judgment or hierarchy of roles. It would be so good if this actually happened!

Teamwork at home, at work, and in society

Teamwork is especially powerful. We need to remember that care, responsibility, and life management should not fall disproportionately on women is a recurring theme in equity-focused discussions.
