Neurodiversity Celebration Week 16th -20th March 2026

Neurodiversity Celebration Week is a worldwide initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences. It aims to transform how neurodivergent individuals are perceived and supported by encouraging schools, universities, organisations, and communities across the world to recognise and celebrate the many skills and talents of neurodivergent people.

Inclusion

At its heart, neurodiversity is about inclusion. It recognises that neurological differences are a natural and valuable part of human diversity, just like differences in culture, background, or personality.

Our Brain’s Wiring

All our brains are wired in different ways, we think, move, process information, and communicate differently. Neurodiversity is used as an umbrella term to describe alternative thinking styles such as Dyslexia, DCD (Dyspraxia), Dyscalculia, Autism, and ADHD. However, regardless of labels, neurodiversity is fundamentally about recognising and valuing people who think differently.

A Balanced View

Around 15–20% of the population is neurodivergent. It is important to have a balanced view of each individual’s unique strengths and challenges. Many of the difficulties neurodivergent people experience are not inherent to them but arise from environments and systems that are designed for a majority population.

Adults Discovery

Many patients I treat and care for have come to an understanding in their adult life that they have neurodivergent qualities. It often is a shock, a relief and a learning curve to find their way forward. Very often, knowing this information makes sense of their life and how they have been feeling and often struggling in life. Through life causing much anxiety, struggle, bullying and lack of self-confidence, it is good to understand and acupuncture can help you find you inner strength.

My Dyslexia

I have Dyslexia and had a definite diagnosis when I was 30, then so much made sense. I found ways of making my life easier and forgiving myself for the self-doubt. Years of struggle in education, gaining my Nursing and Acupuncture training was exhausting, but I did it! The uphill struggle of many.

Anxiety with Nerodiversity

Many patients come to Traditional Acupuncture treatment for anxiety, which is a major problem in neurodiversity. Acupuncture can help you navigate your confidence and self-belief, to find a way to live your life as yourself, not what everyone else expects of you.

Supporting Parents

I also support many parents’ anxiety and stress in their uphill struggle to get the right help for their children and the support they continue to give to their children in adulthood. Many parents in the journey to get their children help realise they have neurodiversity, and to them, so much makes sense too.
