New Year – Quiet Mid-winter

New Year – Quiet Mid-winter

New Years Resolutions

As we find our way into the second part of January are those New Year resolutions of high expectations beginning to wane? It is good to feel a fresh start as we go into a New Year, though not the best time for large explosive expectations of yourself.  We are still in the mid-winter a time to pause and regain your inner strength in Body, Mind and Spirit.

Winter and the Water Element

The Winter is in the Traditional Five Element Acupuncture tradition and treatment relates to the Water Element the qualities of the Water Element are Courage, Strength of Will and Ambition when in balance. However when Water energy is lacking and in reserves and out of balance Fear will rise or fall to unhealthy levels, to disrupt one’s equilibrium.

Quiet time in Winter

How do we build our Water Element energy? Be in tune with the seasons Winter time is when nature rests to gather the strength for the following seasons.

  • Get enough and good quality sleep 7-9 hours a night, go to bed early.
  • Find time in your day or week for quiet time, either doing a craft, read a relaxing book, meditation, Yoga Nidra meditation or just stopping and taking in the season
  • Move in a nourishing way, not adrenaline-rushed – yoga especially yin yoga an exercise that will nourish you
  • Get morning light – go for a walk before 9 am in the light is best, though getting a walk in the light, will help your day and help you sleep
  • Eat warm nourishing food, especially soup
  • Keep warm, snug at home on Winter nights and when out wear warm clothes, a scarf and keep your ankles covered up with warm socks and yes wear a vest!

‘Allowing ourselves to simply be still and quiet, containing our energy within ourselves, is to stand in the energy of the Water element’Allowing ourselves to simply be still and quiet, containing our energy within ourselves, is to stand in the energy of the Water element’

Traditional Five Element Acupuncture

Traditional Five Element Acupuncture is all about the Elements and Seasons treatment is always related to the Element and Season we are in and how a person is within the Season and their Element.

We all have the Five Elements within us but we each have an element which can be called our Causative Factor or Gaudian Element – for more information  check out this page on my website ;-https://www.southwellacupuncture.co.uk/acupuncture-five-elements/
