Stress Awareness Week

Stress Awareness Week

International Stress Awareness Week 2023 is an annual event dedicated to raising awareness about stress, its impact on mental and physical health, and the importance of stress management. International Stress Awareness Week also encourages open conversations about stress and mental well-being to reduce the stigma surrounding these topics. Affects all of us in many different ways, but becoming chronic can cause many problems.

Stress Response

  • What is stress and why is it important? Stress is a response to demands on the body and life, a response to crisis and fears.
  •  If stress gets overwhelming it can cause other mental health problems.
  • Emotional exhaustion and physical illness and can impact on work, relationships, families, and every aspect of life.
  • When someone is suffering from negative or overwhelming stress, they may not act or react appropriately in some situations, for example driving, in an argument or rushing causing accidents, with disastrous consequences.

Stress affecting Mind and Body

  • Stress can affect your whole system; emotional problems can lead on to physical problems and visa versa you may suffer with a physical problem which affects your emotional health.
  • Long term issues such as chronic pain, cancer treatments, digestive issues, infertility, grief, family problems, abuse, loneliness, ageing, life changes and more…
  • Getting help with issues before they become overwhelming is a good start, sharing with a trusted person or coming for Traditional Five Element Acupuncture, can help ease and support the situation you find yourself in.
  • Traditional Five Element Acupuncture treats each individual holistically, to give you the treatment that you need and help you find a way forward.
  • This can be alongside western medical treatment or as a stand alone treatment.

Acupuncture studies

Recent studies have shown that acupuncture can reduce cortisol – a hormone associated with stress – while also increasing endorphin levels – known as the ‘feel-good’ hormones. It can also help to reduce the physical symptoms of stress, such as headaches, muscle tension, and digestive issues.
