Hot Flushes in Menopause and Acupuncture

Hot Flushes and Night Sweats

Acupuncture can help with Vasomotor Symptoms (VMS) which  are a large part of  menopausal issues – hot flushes and night sweats, often these are accompanied by feelings of Anxiety, Palpitations and Insomnia.

These sweats usually affect head, neck, chest and upper back, but can be the whole body. Lasting between 3-10 minutes and may occur multiple times through the day and night. Appearance can be a warm glow to full on sweat and high colouring, making life very difficult.

Fluctuating Oestrogen

Oestrogen levels fluctuate extensively during perimenopause and menopause, and begin to settle post menopause. This can be from 30’s to 50’s and sometimes later.

In western medical terms the nervous system may not be functioning well due to the fluctuating levels of Oestrogen and Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH).

Nurture and Letting Go

Within the tradition of Five Element Acupuncture the elements are a continuing flowing circuit. Within each person, the seasons and the life cycle.
