Summer
We are now entering the Summer Season of the Fire Element.
Summer and the Fire Element are linked to the Heart, Small Intestine, Triple Heater and Heart Protector. In Traditional Five Element Acupuncture as Heat increases this time of year, be sure to take care of your Heart physically and energetically.
Fire Yang
The Fire Element is the most yang element the most outward, active, light, expanding, growing energy. Fire is sun energy, warmth, vitality, motion, creativity, intuition, and love.
Summer Fire time to thrive on activity, on new ideas ventures and change. Time take advantage of the Summer Fire energy has to offer. Time to embrace the light sun and vigour of this season.
Emotions of the Fire Element
Emotionally the Fire Element manifests in being joyful, laughter being the sound. To be with others, sharing, communicating, love and human contact nourishes the Fire element.
Diminished Fire can discourage people from reaching out to others. Loneliness and lack of light can be debilitating for the Fire Element.
A Fire element can be both too open, making them vulnerable or very closed off, with possibility of deep depression.
The Heart
The Fire Element houses the Heart our most important element. In the Chinese traditions the Heart is the emperor of the body’s kingdom. If the Heart is unstable there is a feeling of anxiety and panic, the kingdom is out of control.
The Heart is considered a sensitive organ, it is said to rule and respond to emotions and needs to be cared for.
The Heart is healthy when processing emotion and listening to our Heart’s calling.
Pericardium
Fire is also the energy of the Heart Protector or Pericardium Meridian. This is our ability to have a connection to people, the energy that stands in front of our heart and shields us from hurt like a warrior would protect a monarch, the Heart.
Small Intestine
The Small Intestine Meridian is known as the sorter of pure from impure. It is the energy that helps us discern what is needed and what is rubbish in a mental, emotional and physical sense.
Triple Heater
The Three Heater Meridian looks after the three burning spaces – the top, middle, and bottom of our body’s trunk area. It is our internal thermostat that looks after our emotional and physical temperature. This can become out of balance through seasons and life, often a problem in menopause with hot flushes
Heart and Lungs
The Heart works closely with the Lungs to nourish the body-mind with a considerable amount of oxygen-rich blood, around 2000 gallons of blood a day. Support this process by getting moderate exercise. Spending time outdoors and doing intentional breath work helps too. When we calm the nervous system, we calm the energetic Heart.
The Heart Meridian
The primary Heart meridian (Channel) starts at the centre of the armpit and runs along the inner arm to the pinkie side of the wrist crease, out to the palm of the hand and finishes at the radial side of the pinkie finger.
