#AcupunctureAwarenessWeek2023

It seems a long time ago now but Acupuncture Awareness Week 2023 (AAW23) began only four days ago! Well, for the public that’s certainly the case, but we’ve been very busy behind the scenes and working with our PR partners, TrinityPR, for the last couple of months preparing for this jam-packed week, and what a week it’s been so far!

News articles

It was so great to see that this was picked up and shared online on Saturday, the very first day of AAW23. Whilst coverage continues to come in, with some being shared on our social channels, here is some of the coverage that has been picked up so far:

Patient case stories

BAcC members and their patients who have contributed potential case stories for this campaign have been fantastic – thank you! Real life, patient testimonials have truly helped bring our campaign to life and, whilst not all will end up being published in the press, they have opened so many doors, particularly with journalists. They’ve enabled conversations about acupuncture to begin, which we’re confident will continue long after Acupuncture Awareness Week has ended. Once all press activity has finished, we will make those case stories available for members on our website.

Coverage of those case stories will continue to feature either in press or on local radio for a few weeks yet but here are some that we can share today:

Regional coverage of BAcC Member, Spod Dutton’s patient, Maxine’s story

Anna King – 28/03/2023 – BBC Sounds – skip to 1hr 12 mins to hear interview with Ian Appleyard and Phoebe (patient of Emma Scott MBAcC)

TV feature

Sarah Major, Practitioner Director of our Governing Board, had an early start on Tuesday morning when she was invited for an interview on GB news morning show with Eamonn Holmes and Isabel Webster. It was a great way to kick start our broadcast day and was followed by a positive twitter debate about the benefits of acupuncture and the thought-provoking results of new consumer led research. You can view the interview here.

Broadcast day

Our BAcC spokespeople, Ian Appleyard (research and policy manager) and Sarah Major, have been very busy being interviewed by regional radio stations across the country, including BBC 3 counties, Swindon 105.5, Siren FM and BBC Radio Stoke. With a combination of pre-recorded and live interviews, they’ve been busy raising awareness of acupuncture, the role of the BAcC and how acupuncture can be used to help manage a range of conditions. Again, thanks to everyone, including members and their patients who have also been involved in these interviews.

We will continue to share coverage of these interviews in the coming weeks as timings are confirmed.

Supporting AAW23

As always, we’re grateful for the connections you’re making and the articles and content you’re producing during Acupuncture Awareness Week:

If there are more to share, we’d love to hear from you.

Social channels

Our daily blogs have provided a different area of interest for each day of AAW23. We’re so delighted that so many members have chosen to signpost these or share extracts from them on your social channels – broadening the reach of the different messages. With ‘Getting to the point’ social tiles appearing on different feeds, it’s been fantastic to have so many members engaged – liking, sharing and commenting on the daily blogs and updates, as well as writing your own supporting content. We make a great effort to be reciprocal and engage with your posts as much as we can over this very busy period.

Public support

Finally, we were truly delighted to have well-known podcaster and author, Elizabeth Day (of How to Fail fame) endorse our Awareness Week. Again, thanks to one of our members (Ross Barr) and the experiences Elizabeth has had of acupuncture, she was really happy to share such a supportive message about the importance of acupuncture, signposting the BAcC website as a first port of call!
