Stress and Acupuncture – Stress Awareness Week 2019

Stress and Acupuncture – Stress Awareness Week 2019

International Stress Awareness Week takes place in this week, Monday 4th – Friday 8th November. The Week is to raise awareness about stress prevention and the importance for individuals and organisations.

The theme for this year is Resilience: the power to succeed, resilience and mental wellbeing in times of uncertainty

It can be important to have resilience in both work and personal lives to have the skills to succeed through on-going challenges.

What is stress and why is it important? Stress is a response to demands on the body and life, a response to crisis and fears. If stress gets overwhelming it can cause other mental health problems, emotional exhaustion and physical illness and can have an effect on work, relationships, families, and every aspect of life. When someone is suffering from negative or overwhelming stress, they may not act or react normally in some situations, for example driving or in an argument, with disastrous consequences.

Treating a patient with Traditional Five Element Acupuncture when stress has becomes a problem, we look at each individual and how they respond to the situations and stressors in their lives. We all have a different make up and respond to our environment, our past history and our emotional responses in many ways. Traditional Five Element Acupuncture identifies the imbalance within the system Body, Mind and Spirit which may be causing the stress. Also looking at ways a patient can make lifestyle changes to help themselves.

It is important to address your stress levels as many symptoms can occur in all of your Body, Mind and Spirit – such as insomnia, anxiety, depression, headaches and migraines, muscle pain and tension, heart disease, circulation, ME/CFS, Fibromyalgia, vertigo and labyrinthitis and adrenal fatigue. Long term stress can be debilitating so take action now and look after yourself.
