23 Years Today
Today is 23 Years since I qualified as a Licentiate of Acupuncture Lic Ac in Traditional Five Element Acupuncture and the day I moved to Nottinghamshire.
I trained at The College of Traditional Acupuncture UK (CTA) in Leamington Spa Warwickshire – stared by the late J.R. Worsley, who was a British acupuncturist who is credited with bringing five element acupuncture, also known as ‘classical acupuncture’ or ‘traditional acupuncture’ to the west.
I happen to be very lucky to live at that time in Stratford-on-Avon, just ten miles from this world renowned acupuncture college.
I came to traditional five element acupuncture due to injuring my back whilst nursing at Warwick Hospital. I was a keen runner and was stopped in my tracks; I was in my early twenties having pain and difficulty standing for any length of time.
A friend told me that a race horse had acupuncture treatment and ran again. I had to find out more. I started my journey with traditional five Element acupuncture treatment in Stratford–on–Avon which literately changed my life. The treatment helped my back, my PMS and generally improved my health, wellbeing and confidence. My acupuncturist said due to the fact that I asked too many questions for her to answer ; she sent me to an Open day at the College of Traditional Acupuncture then in Leamington Spa; that day I had an interview and gained a place on the next course.
I stared my course in March 1992, and studied this amazing medicine for three years, a totally different experience to western medicine. The Five-Element system of acupuncture looks at every aspect of a person’s physical, mental and spiritual well-being in order to diagnose the root cause of his or her imbalance. This all made perfect sense to me, and I have continued to embrace and learn this form of traditional treatment since. Unfortunately this college no longer exists but there are colleges that still teach traditional five element acupuncture in the UK.
I started my practice in Southwell Nottinghamshire, the same year in Church Street, where I remained for 19 years and 4 years ago I moved to Crew Lane (just behind the M&S/BP garage) to my beautiful sunny treatment room.
I am so very glad that I took up Traditional Five Element Acupuncture as I am able to help so many of my patients have a better life. In the 23 years that I have been practicing this incredible treatment I helped so many people in a variety of different situations from pre-conception to death and so much in-between.
